After arriving in Malaysian Borneo via Kota Kinabalu and hours trekking the ascent of Mount Kinabalu to a rest stop at Laban Rata, where we catch a few hours of sleep before resuming our ascent in the night, we then pursue the 4000 meter climb and reach the summit and peak – the highest in Southeast Asia – at sunrise. From there we begin the leisurely and scenic descent – though watch out your knees – to loop back to the foothills of Mount Kinabalu within the same day.
